How to use this gematria calculator
Type a word, name or phrase into the box above. Every letter gets the value its cipher assigns, the values are added up, and each card shows the total for one cipher. Take the word Gematria in English Ordinal, where a=1 and z=26: 7 + 5 + 13 + 1 + 20 + 18 + 9 + 1 = 74. The same word gives a different total in every other cipher:

- What is gematria?
- Gematria assigns a numerical value to each letter, so every word and phrase adds up to a number. Words that share a number are considered connected. The practice goes back to ancient Hebrew numeration and Greek isopsephy.
- How is a gematria value calculated?
- Each cipher is a table mapping letters to values. In English Ordinal, a=1 through z=26, so 'Jesus' is 10+5+19+21+19 = 74. Different ciphers use different tables — this calculator computes 36 of them simultaneously.
- Which ciphers does this calculator support?

- What is a gematria calculator used for?
- It adds up the letter values of a word, name or phrase in many ciphers at once, so you can compare words that share a number, study names and titles in scripture, or check a value without counting letters by hand. Searching a number turns it around and lists the phrases that equal it.
- Can I calculate the gematria of my name?
- Yes. Type your full name as you normally write it; spaces and punctuation are ignored. Most people start with English Ordinal and Full Reduction, then compare the Jewish and Kabbalah ciphers.
- Does it work with Hebrew gematria?
- You type in English: the Jewish cipher applies the Hebrew units-tens-hundreds pattern (1–9, 10–90, 100–900) to the Latin alphabet, following Agrippa's 1533 table. Jewish Ordinal and Jewish Reduction are its counted and reduced forms. Hebrew script itself is not read.
